Halo sat in silence, or at least everything outside her mind, where the thoughts of anyone out in the hall, circled and pestered the girl unwillingly. Shifting, she ran one hand through her soft, light brown curls pushing back her red bangs as she let out an exasperated sigh.
The teen was mostly used to it being two or three other voices, her brother and two other run-aways, but she'd known the sound of their thoughts so well. Of course, now she had not only her concerns about this new, strange place, and the teachers, but the worries of other mutants. She hated the feeling of stress that came from most of them, though many were adjusting quick enough so that their thoughts were more trivial - still equally annoying however. Halo wished to get closer and single in on just one person's thoughts, but she was still keeping to herself. For the moment at least... A private joke made Halo let out a nearly silent chuckle. She always enjoyed listening to what people thought of her crazier actions, and just the more random observations she was prone to making.
Yawning, Halo leaned back, thinking for a moment as her foot unconsciously swung from side to side while she managed to lower the volume of the voices in her head. She needed something to occupy her, badly. Then it occurred to the girl, and she sat up straight, shrugging her shoulders as her bright blue gaze turned to the thick hard-cover book that she had placed on the small end-table. She could practice, besides there wasn't anyone to annoy or even distract her mind with. Grinning, Halo scooted around in the large comfy chair, so that her legs were crossed and she was staring intently at the large worn book which she'd read twice over a two month period. She stared, her eyes lowering as she tried to focus a bit harder, her hand lifting slightly. The book however didn't want to cooperate so much, twitching just the slightest.
As she did this, Halo paid very little attention to anything around her, not even the approach of someone else...

George was singing a song in her head. Some new song she heard on the radio. Normally she would be whistling but today she was trying to be unobtrusive. She was still bopping her head around, in general looking sort of crazy. But she was used to the stares by now.
The Common Room...She always seemed to be here. But perhaps that's why it was here, for people to chill when nothing is going on. George sighed and entered the room. She was still bopping around. Until she noticed a girl staring at a book. It was odd behavior, but not really odd for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, considering that George often walked around with a water halo around her head.
Leaning over the back of the chair George wrinkled her nose. "Whatcha doin'?" She asked. She wondered when she was going to die for being so curious. At times it seemed unhealthy but George shrugged of the worry. And focused on the girl again. George hadn't seen her before and had to introduce herself...because she was the school's unofficial greeter.

Halo kept completely still, the book still twitching just slightly, growing impatient, the girl had started glaring at the book. She remained there, so intent on making the book move now, that all her focus was on the object, until... "Whatcha doin'?"
Snapping her gaze around, Halo jumped in her seat, letting out a small yelp as the book flew across the room, hitting the wall it slid to the floor. "So now you decide to move!" She growled at it, before looking up at the one who had interrupted her. Halo tilted her head curiously for a moment, suddenly interested in this other girl's thoughts. "Practicing." Halo finally answered. "Nice song by the way." She added, shaking her head as she tried to push George's singing from her head.
Halo hopped out of the chair, and walked over to the already beaten book, picking it up she dusted it off and grumbled. Since she'd come to Xavier's reading this was pretty much out of the question, she couldn't focus enough to read the words on the page though she'd managed to pretty much memorize all of it in the two other times she'd read it. Shrugging, the girl tossed the book into the chair and stared at George again, waiting for her to do what she was planning, rather then interrupt as she usually liked to do.

"So now you decide to move!" The girl growled after a book flew into the wall. George looked after it with a raised eyebrow. "Practicing...Nice song by the way." The girl had said.
Hmmm, obviously a telepath and with telekinetic ability. George thought to herself. Which means she can hear this...which means I should stop having inner monologues...which means if I'm still doing this I'm a lame-o. Grinning at herself, she looked at the girl. "Sorry, people find it annoying when I whistle." She frowned, playfully. "But I suppose that in a school that has students with telepathic ability, singing badly in my head is just as annoying..."
She watched the girl toss the book in the chair. "I'm George, the unofficial best friend to all newbies." George folded her arms. "Although you probably new that already..." She stood there with a lopsided grin on her face, trying not to think. She wasn't quite sure how that worked. Considering how her brain was always whizzing by different thoughts and such a fast rate she could barely decipher them. "What's your name?"

Halo blinked, staring at George as she listened to that interesting little inner monologue, with a somewhat disturbing expression. After a moment the girl laughed aloud, shaking her head in amusement at what she'd heard. "Well then..." She muttered. "At least your thoughts are fun." She observed with a grin. Compared to the other students, most of whom were worried about being liked and accepted, this was the best thing she'd heard at this school.
Giving a foolish little grin, Halo leaned back. "Not a problem. It would be more annoying if you were thinking all the same things that everyone else does." The girl grinned, looking at George, as if that made any difference in the way she heard the other's thoughts. "I'm George, the unofficial best friend to all newbies." "Although you probably new that already..."
Halo grinned and nodded, con firming that before answering. "I'm Halo, which my brother always thought was 'false advertising'. I'm a bit insane, even without the voices in my mind, and since my head is already full, I tend to speak anything that I think anyway... It just makes it easier... And I think it evens out the playing field."

George's nose twitched. It was an annoying tick that she seemed to have. Her nose twitched whenever she was getting ready to laugh or make a joke or in general when she was having a good time. "Hm, Being insane should let you fit in here. But maybe you don't like to fit in. People think I'm insane too. Jimmy Crack Corn say "energetic", but I know he means insane." George rambled. There was no point thinking to herself. Halo would just hear it anyway.
George sat down in a chair. She had a million questions, but tried to contain herself, especially since the girl was a telepath. George didn't want to give her a headache at their first meeting. "Where is your brother? Does he go here too?" George asked. It hadn't come out right. She had meant to ask the girl about herself, engage in a little smalltalk, before revealing the busybody she could be. Sometime she could help herself though.

Halo only grinned as she listened without interrupting, which was somewhat unusual for her. She was used to insane or as George had been called, 'energetic' her friends had been like that as well, her brother had been too, just not as much as she had. Watching the other, Halo realized she was now all too eager to answer the many questions that were flooding George's thoughts. Halo was just bored, and besides, who else had been curious enough to want to hear the stories she had to tell?
For now, she decided to stick to the questions George asked out loud, since those must be the ones she'd rather have answered first. Halo paused before flopping back onto the chair where she'd been sitting, only now she rested upside-down, staring at the other. "Where is your brother? Does he go here too?"
Halo thought for a moment, before shaking her head. "No, he doesn't go here, though I wish he would. Michel has healing powers, and something else that I can't remember." She paused for only a split second. "I'm not really sure where he is. We split up recently, after being chased down by some freaks; Vince and Eric...." Halo stopped and looked up, having closed her eyes to remember the details. "It's a long story..." She muttered, shaking her head.

George only nodded. The words 'It's a long story' usually translate to 'It's a painful story and I don't want to relive it with you, so shut you freaking mouth you weirdo!' So George just nodded. "You don't have to tell me. I mean I'd like to know, because I have this unholy curiosity I must quench. But you don't have to." She grinned as the other girl stared up at her from her upside down angle.
"I could always try and help you convince him to come here." She said seriously. Talking people down was her specialty. And if George couldn't talk them down she wore them down with her constant presence, i.e. Mopey.
"Well, I'm not a mindreader so you'll have to tell me everything verbal...or maybe not." George ran her fingers through her short messy black hair. "That was stupid. What do you like to do? If there's anything you want to do and you don't think you have the resources, come see me. Chances are I can hook it up. As long as it's nothing like going to Japan or anything. That's also my job..." She smiled thinking about the date she had set up for her friend. Very elaborate and over the top. But people deserve it, George goes all out. And from what she could tell, Halo deserved it too.

Halo blinked, shaking her head slightly as she heard George's thoughts on what she'd said. "Nah, it's no problem, I can tell you some other time, it just is rather long... And pretty boring, it's like a bad soap opera... just with scary mutant powers." She smiled, and nodded awkwardly as she was still upside down.
"I could always try and help you convince him to come here." To this Halo didn't respond, she blinked, glancing away as she thought of the possibility. She doubted it would be that hard, since this was the safest place that she or her brother had ever known, the only problem was getting back to him. Shrugging these thoughts away, Halo focused back on George.
"What do you like to do? If there's anything you want to do and you don't think you have the resources, come see me. Chances are I can hook it up. As long as it's nothing like going to Japan or anything. That's also my job..."
Halo stared for a moment, a bit surprised at this before she finally answered. "Other than annoying people, there's not much I really like to do... publicly." She hesitated on that last word before continuing. "I play guitar whenever I can concentrate enough, but that's about it."

George chuckled. "That sounds like life here!" She noticed Halo look off and wondered what she was thinking. Nodding she decided that it could wait.
"Other than annoying people, there's not much I really like to do... publicly....I play guitar whenever I can concentrate enough, but that's about it."
She frowned. "You do things...privately?" She asked. To George it seemed like an odd thing to say. She shrugged. "You play the 'geetar'!" Laughing at her ridiculous pronunciation of the word guitar, she grinned. "Do you write music?" She asked. George had always wanted to play the guitar, but her mother made her practice 'proper' instruments. But she was always willing to put aside her dislike to play with someone else. "Do you wanna play together sometime?" She asked.

"You do things...privately?"
Halo blinked and gave a light laugh at this. "You make it sound wrong, it's not as weird as your thinking. It's just we were used to staying away from public places, and any acts that would draw attention to ourselves." She explained, grinning to herself, as she always ended up doing something stupid wherever she went, which made it harder to hide.
Pausing, the girl shifted her position, so that she was laying in the chair, with her legs dangling over the armrest. "Do you write music?" Halo nodded happily, but tilted her head to the side, thinking back again. "Just music... no lyrics though... The last time I wrote an actual song, Michel threatened to strangle me with my guitar strings..." She seemed proud of that fact.
"Do you wanna play together sometime?" Halo turned slightly, a little surprised by this. She'd caught the words 'proper instruments' in George's thoughts, but hadn't heard specifics. "Yea, that would be awesome! What do you play?" Halo replied enthusiastically.

"You make it sound wrong, it's not as weird as your thinking. It's just we were used to staying away from public places, and any acts that would draw attention to ourselves." George grinned. She wasn't trying to make it sound wrong, but it did sound odd when Halo said it. "Just music... no lyrics though... The last time I wrote an actual song, Michel threatened to strangle me with my guitar strings..."
"Well, that's more than me. Mother would always get upset when I deviated from the 'classics'. But I'm a deviant, so she was always upset." George shrugged. "Yea, that would be awesome! What do you play?"
"Ugh," she groaned. "The piano, violin, clarinet, trumpet, and saxophone." She muttered. "I think I'm best at the piano. Mom thought I would learn some discipline if I practiced something. But I just practice because I wanted to be the best at it. Does that make sense?" George tilted her head thoughtfully. The only reason she sat for more than an hour a day practicing different instruments, or painting, or learning French, and Spanish, (and Gaelic for some reason) was so she could say she was the best.
"When I finally got to public school my freshman year, I learned that no on really cares what you do...that there is always someone better than you." George said. Her voice was distant, like she was in a trance. That first year of high school was not fun, it was actually really bad. Then she scoffed. "Poor rich girl, right?" She gave a sad little smile then shook her head, shaking off the downness she was feeling. "Anyway, if you give some music, I will most likely be able to play it. We can find someone to write lyrics for us."
