Lily walked cautiously to the library. She looked over her back several times to make sure neither George, nor Ashcer were in sight. Undoubtedly either one of them would thwart her plan to read in the library.
She sighed with relief as she made it within the confounds of the Library doors. She gave a small nod to the Librarian and continued onward, her favorite chair in mind.
She past the fiction isle, and there it sat, empty as always, sitting across from another chair that was always empty as well. She smiled and sank into it's cushions, just as before. She dug into her bag and pulled out To Kill a Mockingbird, George's new nickname for her immeadiately coming to mind. Yes, George had bestowed upon her a new nickname.. she would be Mockingbird, or Birdie for the rest of her life.... but no one else would ever know why.. it was much too embarassing.
Lily carefully pulled the blue ribbon, flipping to where she left off in the book, and beginning to sink deeper and deeper as she read on. Jim and Scout were on their way to the Fall festival type thing..... and Lily was quite anxious to get to the part where they are attacked..... Having read the book before, she knew everything that was to happen, before it would happen.
Within the sanctuary of her mind, Lily rested, her thoughts entirely consumed with the book that lay before her eyes. She didn't notice anything else that happened in the library. To her, all she saw was Jim and Scout on their way to the school fall festival...

James was as happy as happy can be right now. He had finally find the library, a very large one at that. Today he had to decide on whether he should practice his violin or to just sit back, relax and read. He chose the latter and headed to the library.
His favorite types of books had to be fiction and historical fiction. The only thing he hated, were books that were overly cliched, but what was he going to do. He headed for the fiction section, there had been a few books he wanted to read. He had a list, maybe they had it in the library.
He took one out, Of Mice and Men, he had heard it was more historical fiction than anything but otherwise a sad but good book. Another was, For Whom the Bell Tolls, that book he had also heard was good. He looked through the shelves and found it. Last book, he looked and looked...but it wasn't there. He sighed, oh well.
He soon made his way to the closest table, a girl sat there. He sat down, and looked at the book in her hand. It was the book he wanted. "To Kill A Mocking Bird," he accidently said aloud. He had read the book when he was younger, but never really understood it. He, now older and more into books then he was back then, wanted to re-read the book. Crap, was the only thing that went through his mind.

She just turned to the last page..... A small smile on her face, as she had almost finished it. It really was a wonderful book. All of the symbols, and political aspects of the book just made it that much more interesting to Lily. Harper Lee was truly an ingenious woman in Lily's mind. She one day hoped to come up with a book at least half as good as this one... but that was still an idea in the making.
Halfway through the page she heard a faint sound "To Kill A Mocking Bird," she heard a not-too-distant voice say. She only had a few sentences left... she could easily read it and then look up. But Lily wasn't that way. Though she enjoyed reading throughly, the polite manners she had made her look up, she didn't want to be rude to who ever said that.
She looked up and saw a rather tall guy sitting in the chair opposite from her. She smiled politely. "Yes it is actually... I take it you've heard of it?" but the way he eyed the book made her re think. "Or perhaps you would like to read the only copy in the library... that currently resides in my care." she said softly. She didn't want to come off rude, for that wasn't her intentions at all. She was merely analyzing him in a sort of way.
Her eyes darted down at the few ssentences she had left to read. Four in all. She could do without, besides, she had already read the book before. She slipped the faded blue ribbon out of the back of the book, and tucked it in her bag, and then held out the book, not waiting for him to answer. "If you would like to read it, it's yours for the taking. I just finished actually..." So she had lied a bit... she could do without. She had three other books in her bag to choose from, and a whole library plus that.

He sighed, but then smiled. He could wait, he still had two other books to read, when she is done, he would take the book. He wouldn't like to just interupt while someone is reading, it wasn't his nature. So he opened the first book, Of Mice and Men, a small book, a book that could be read in about less than a half hour. He adjusted his glasses, and started on page one.
He then stopped when he heard the girl talk. "Yes it is actually... I take it you've heard of it?"
He smiled, something he does a lot." Actually, I have, I've read it too, I just never really understood it when I did." He said truthfully.
"Or perhaps you would like to read the only copy in the library... that currently resides in my care."
"I would like to read it, but I couldn't possibly take it from you, you took it first anyway." He said. If he were to do that, he wouldn't think of doing that. He looked back down at the books he had taken. He could just read those for now, maybe even read more.
"If you would like to read it, it's yours for the taking. I just finished actually..."
"Are you sure? I mean, are you seriously done? I couldn't take it if you are not done." He said. He wanted to be positive.

"Are you sure? I mean, are you seriously done? I couldn't take it if you are not done." He said. He was obviously trying to be polite.. something LIly did quite often. He smiled, and he looked like a very , well positive person...
Lily smiled and nodded. "Yeah.... Besides... I've already read it a few times before, and I have three other substitutes on hand.." she dug into her bag and pulled out three books. A Tale of Two Cities, Dracula, and The Good Earth. The latter would have probably not been in her bag, if she hadn't needed to read it for school purposes. But it was the only one she hadn't read yet, so she placed To Kill a Mokingbird on the table, his for the taking, and opened The Good Earth the other two books in a neat stack next to her messenger bag.
She smiled politely, and then went to reading her book, thinking that the conversation between the two were over, though she didn't totally submerge herself in the books depths, just in case it wasn't.

"Yeah.... Besides... I've already read it a few times before, and I have three other substitutes on hand.."
He noticed that she had taken out three books, three books that two of which he had read, the other he had heard of. "Wait, is that Bram Stokers Dracula, the unabridged version?" He asked curiously. He read that one, but not many people did, because they always claimed one way or another the unabridged version was too hard to comprehend.
"Another good book like Dracula, has to be the Picture of Dorian gray," he said. He then noticed he was talking while she tried to read and quickly shut up. He took To Kill a mocking bird, and quietly sat back. "Sorry if I was talking while you were trying to read, what I did was rather rude." He said nervously.

She smiled up at him and nodded. "It's actually one of my favorites... I've read it several times.... But I left Dorian back in my cabin, That book is really good also. Though I don't think the movie, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen does Dorian justice.... there is so much more behind him. Though Van Helsing has a pretty good portrayal of Dracula..."[/i] She said, and then shut up as she realized her vampire fascination was showing.
All of a sudden he stopped talking and picked up the book, hiding behind it. "Sorry if I was talking while you were trying to read, what I did was rather rude." he apologized.
Lily smiled and shrugged slightly. "It's alright. I probably read too much anyways... at least that's what George says.... but I can't help it that I find books so fascinating..." she said rather calmly, a hint of blushing showed in her cheeks as she realized how geeky that must have sounded.

"It really didn't." He agreed. "The thing that really annoyed me about the movie...was the fact that he dies if he sees the portrait right? But that's not true, I was so annoyed. If I remember correctly, you were supposed to destroy the picture." He said pushing his hair back, it was a habit that he had always tried to break, and yet couldn't. "And if your talking about the movie Van helsing...well I really didn't like the movie. The story was just, I don' t know how to explain, and that whole werewolf thing, well I just didn't like." He explained...well more like rambled. He noticed he had been talking a lot so he quickly stopped.
It's alright. I probably read too much anyways... at least that's what George says.... but I can't help it that I find books so fascinating..."
"Books are fascinating, that's why I think that you can never read too much. My parents used to tell me that, I hated it until I understood symbols and what-not's in books. It just calms me everytime I read a book of interest." He caught himself rambling then stayed shut again. He really needed to control that.

Lily nodded a little. "Yeah.. and I thought the movie could've used... well I dunno something more... It just seemed short. And like we agreed.... it didn't do Dorian Gray justice at all. But for some reason I thought Van helsing was alright.... though a little weird at parts... But I guess the fact that I own it says something.." she laughed softly.

"Yeah... I think that To Kill a Mockingbird was one of the first books that I read and fell in love with.... I mean Harper Lee put so much detail in it.... Sometimes I just don't see how people hate to read so much. At my old school all of the kids would groan whenever it was Free Reading time.... " she said, non-chalantly slipping her ribbon to mark her spot in The Good Earth She figured that the way the conversation was going, it wasn't likely to let up soon. And it would be impolite to read and talk at the same time. She laughed softly as it dawned on her that she had been talking to this guy for about five minutes now, and didn't even know his name.
"I'm sorry... I didn't seem to catch your name.." she said politely. "Well.. it's more like I didn't ask your name yet...." she said truthfully, feeling as if she should have clarified herself.

He looked at her an smiled. "Well opinions are opinions, nobody can agree with each other on everything, it's just a natural way of life." He said, to try and reassure her. "No worries." He added the smile still on his face.

"To tell you the truth, I was like that a few years ago," he started saying with a chuckle. " The fact of the matter is, my parents used to force me to read at least 3 hours a night, it was exhausting, but there was this stephen king book I read, the completly changed my mind on books. Since then I have continued reading, just because more and more books started to appeal to me." He rambled. "I don't really know much about the book, I had read it before, but I was little and didn't really understand. So I decided that I would read it again...I am rambling again aren't I?" He asked pushing his hair back. He was seriously annoyed at the bad habit, but he couldn't stop himself.
"I'm sorry... I didn't seem to catch your name.." She said politely."Well.. it's more like I didn't ask your name yet...."
It hit him like a ton of bricks, how rude was he. "Sorry, how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself, I am James, James white." He said, a smile on his face. He always seemed to be smiling, but seriously, it's only on his good days which was basically everyday.

"Well opinions are opinions, nobody can agree with each other on everything, it's just a natural way of life. No worries." He said, smiling still.
His smile seemed to be infectious. The more she saw it, the more hers grew. "Yeah.. Besides, if everyone agreed then no one would be different. And what fun would a world of people with basically the same mind set be?"
"To tell you the truth, I was like that a few years ago," he started saying with a chuckle. "Yeah.. But don't worry about it.... I do it alot too. It seems like if I get on a subject I'm truly passionate about I won't shutup..... it's rather embarassing actually.." she admitted, her smile growing still. "I've actually read many of the Steven King novels. They are really good.... he's an excellent writer. [which I actually haven't....so she isn't going to elbaorate. XD] But To Kill a Mockingbird is an excellent book. It deals alot with segregation in the South, and other symbols. Like how the Mockingbird is a symbol for innocence... and how people pick on other people that necessarilly haven't done anything wrong to them... Except be different. If you think about it, it's sort of like the Mutant/ Human problem...... and to tell you the truth alot like my own life... But that's another story.. .." she paused in her rambles. "And I really should stop rambling now... It's probably getting rather tiring." she laughed softly. They both would probably annoy any other person, rambling on as they had.
"Sorry, how rude of me, I forgot to introduce myself, I am James, James white."
Lily smiled, and it seemed as if it had grown as much as it could. "Don't worry about it... I've been just as rude, with holding my name like that.... It's nice to meet you James, I'm Lily... Lily Krittenden." she smiled, and placed her gloved hands on the table. She stared at them distractedly. James was alot like her... it was rather odd, but refreshing in a way, to find someone who seemed to love books just as much as she did.

"Yeah.. Besides, if everyone agreed then no one would be different. And what fun would a world of people with basically the same mind set be?"
All James did was nod at this comment. There was nothing to be said, nothing to say. He just listened.

"That just goes to show you, there is a lot to be learned from a book. And I don't know why it's a people think that being a mutant is a problem. But then again, a lot of people tend to criticize what they do not understand," he said with a sigh. "Just like my parents," headded with a mumble. " Oh well, can't really change how we are now can we?" He added, trying to think more positive.
"Don't worry about it... I've been just as rude, with holding my name like that.... It's nice to meet you James, I'm Lily... Lily Krittenden."
"It's nice to meet you to," He replied with a sincere smile. He soon then noticed her hands. She was wearing gloves? "Um...I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you wearing gloves? It seems to be pretty warm in here..." he started but trailed off.

It seemed like he had family trouble as well.... But Lily couldn't exactly call not seeing her mother since she was ten, a problem. Her mother never liked her. "Unfortunately even mutants discriminate against other mutants.... But it all goes back to the fact that people criticize what they don't understand. I mean, everyone else thought Christopher Columbus was a fool for thinking the world was round... but where would we be without him today?" she smiled softly, it had decreased a bit, since her mother had crossed her mind, but it was still there.
"It's nice to meet you to, Um...I hope you don't mind me asking, but why are you wearing gloves? It seems to be pretty warm in here..."
Lily laughed softly. "Not to me... I'm always cold... My powers have that effect on me. And as for the gloves.... well they are safety precautions actually... If anyone came in contact with my skin, they could die within a matter of four minutes..... My power is awful. And sadly I can't control the fact that I suck away people's lives just by touching them.." she said, a sad smile lingering on her face, as she stared at her gloves. "I haven't felt the warmth of human skin... or warmth at all for that matter... since I was ten. Well unless you count the unfortunate accident the other day with Coach Alex.... But he really should've known not to pick me up by my collar.." she shrugged. she wasn't blaming him for anything, it was a simple mistake, anyone could've made it.

He just nodded again. He was enjoying this conversation. What started out as a small conversation grew to a big one. He was happy really, someone who liked books as well was a good thing, they would have a lot to relate too. "Not to me... I'm always cold... My powers have that effect on me. And as for the gloves.... well they are safety precautions actually... If anyone came in contact with my skin, they could die within a matter of four minutes..... My power is awful. He felt horrible now. Not being able to simply tap someone without fear of harming them was a bad life to live. He couldn't even think of living like that. How could he help her? Then he finally remembered, his power. His power was just like a second layer of very thin but very strong skin. So, he had to ask. "Well...would you like to? I mean, would you like to feel the warmth? My powers...it's like a second layer of very strong but very thin skin. It feels exactly like a normal person's skin should feel like...so do you want to try?" He asked a bit nervous. Hopefully she did not take what he said the wrong way.

Lily shrugged. "I dunno if I could.... I mean... I would hate that there is the slightest chance that I could harm you.... And I'd feel awful, because you are really nice...It's up to you..... though I really, really don't want to hurt you....." she said, her blue eyes sparkling with concern.
